Most recently, "Pastor Russ" served three and a half years as pastor of Denver (Iowa) Baptist Church. Before that he served three churches in California for twenty years. Prior to that he taught English and religion at two universities in Ohio for sixteen years.
Russ holds a bachelor's degree in English, a Master of Divinity degree, and an honorary Doctor of Religion degree.
Russ and Helen, his wife of forty-five years, have relatives literally from coast to coast, with their son Chris and his family living in Parkersburg.
Playing dominoes and solving crossword puzzles with Helen are two of Russ's favorite pastimes, along with rooting for two grandsons who play football for Aplington-Parkersburg High School.
